POSITION PROFILE The AWS (Amazon Web Services) Senior Systems Engineer works within the AWS Operations team and is responsible for all aspects of supporting Connectria customers that use the AWS platform. The incumbent will evaluate customer needs and engineer custom solutions to fit customer needs while clearly documenting, strategically planning, and effectively executing within maintenance windows. This leader will manage processes and implement improvements where necessary. The position requires verbal and written communication with customers, vendors and Connectria personnel. The position may require working off hours (including holidays and weekends) in support of changes and upgrades as well as problem determination tasks. All members of the AWS team participate in the 24x7 on-call rotation.
Support existing AWS environments, monitoring health of environments using multiple enterprise tools, providing maximum system performance to users and sustaining system uptime standard. Implements and validates monitoring in deployments.
Evaluate customer needs, troubleshoot as needed, and engineer custom solutions; also formulate capacity planning and performance recommendations.
Mentor and train a team of AWS Administrators and AWS Systems Engineers and facilitate cross training within and between departments.
Participate in 24x7 on-call rotation and respond to calls from the Connectria Network Operation Center (NOC)
Respond to customer support calls related to AWS environments, managing incidents within the ticketing system and resolving issues through troubleshooting.
Evaluate issues reported or observed, utilizing problem solving skills and attention to detail to resolve problems quickly and effectively and to proactively prevent problems. Escalate as needed.
Collaborate effectively with coworkers and other departments (Security, Networking, Data Protection, and Operating Systems) in support of customer environments, meeting the customers’ needs quickly and effectively.
Appropriately document customer interactions in ticketing system.
Prioritize and complete assigned duties expeditiously and within approved windows.
Make presentations or attend meetings regarding internal or customer environments
Provide exceptional customer service by communicating clearly and accurately (orally and in writing) while maintaining a professional demeanor in alignment with the No Jerks Allowed philosophy.
Stay abreast of latest AWS offerings and make recommendations to leadership.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related discipline
At least five years’ relevant experience in the Information Technology field including experience with AWS, networking, Load Balancers, VPNs, and firewalls.
At least two years’ experience with AWS development, trouble shooting, and systems administration.
Possess at least two current AWS Certifications: Certified Solutions Architect – Associate; Certified SysOps Administrator – Associate; or Certified Solutions Architect – Architect.
Comprehensive understanding of AWS including: AWS Command Line (CLI), AWS SDK, current AWS product offerings and services, best practices and troubleshooting techniques, and experience providing systems administration and issue resolution for AWS.
Mastery with one or more scripting or programming languages. Python, Node.js and Ruby are desirable.
Demonstrated experience with automation tools such as Chef, Puppet and Jenkins.
Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively within a team, while also taking the initiative to lead when needed. Management experience and the ability to influence others and gain support for ideas is desirable.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects at the same time. This includes daily support of existing customers, building out environments for new customers, and ongoing projects.
The ability to keep current with the latest AWS offerings and willingness to accept training and certification
